Growing up in the environs of Los Angeles during the 1980s, I remember enjoying “The Federated Group” (electronics superstore) advertisements featuring Shadoe Stevens as “Dr. Fred Rated.” Delightfully wacky and postmodern. They were smashing prices (as the sledgehammer obliterated the TV in one blow); prices were falling (as Fred Rated hurled a TV from the roof of a tall building). Those were the two most tame. I found a link to a lengthy montage of Federated Group TV spots to reminisce over.
